On this day trip to the Ruqruqa waterfalls, we'll cross the highlands of Ayacucho to reach Quispillaccta, where you can swim in its famous turquoise pools surrounded by mountains. One of the region's true hidden gems!
Ruqruqa Waterfalls and Turquoise Pools From Ayacucho
We'll meet at the Portal Constitución, opposite the Plaza de Armas in Ayacucho. After the introductions, we'll board a vehicle and head into the high Andean landscapes of the Chuschi district. Ready to discover one of the best-kept secrets of the Ayacucho highlands?
We'll set off on a 3-hour journey along mountain roads, passing rural communities and sweeping plains. Halfway, we'll stop in Condorccocha, where you'll have time for breakfast at your own expense before continuing. We'll then keep climbing to the community of Quispillaccta.
From here, the vehicle will drop us off around 20 minutes on foot from the Ruqruqa waterfalls. We'll make a gentle descent along trails lined with vegetation and rock formations until the famous turquoise pools come into view, fed by cascades of crystal-clear, temperate water.
Once there, you'll have 1 hour of free time to relax, swim, and enjoy this natural setting. Did you know the intense blue of some pools comes from the minerals present and the way sunlight reflects off the limestone bed? The water temperature also stays more stable than the air thanks to the underground currents that feed the pools year-round.
We'll then head back to the community, where you'll have 45 minutes of free time to enjoy a traditional lunch at your own expense.
Finally, we'll board the vehicle and make our way back to the original meeting point in Ayacucho, where we'll say our goodbyes after a total of 11 hours.
